With Olympic qualifying for the 2020 Tokyo games coming up later this year, U.S. Soccer is reportedly in talks with Jason Kreis to become the next U-23 US national team manager.
The 46-year-old, who was a US international as a player, has previously managed Real Salt Lake, NYCFC and Orlando City. After being fired by Orlando in June 2018, he's been out of management, but was hired by Inter Miami in January. Tenorio's report indicates that if hired, Kreis would work both roles.
Preparations for the U-23 USMNT are ramping up, with a training camp expected to meet this month and the Concacaf qualifying tournament tentatively scheduled for October.
Per Tenorio, U.S. Soccer spokesman Michael Kammarman told reporters recently that the federation is “deep into the hiring process for that coach and, ideally, that person would be available for that [upcoming training] camp.”
