One of the Philadelphia Union’s top offseason signings looks to be extending his stay in the City of Brotherly Love, according to The Philly Soccer Page.

Early reports state that Jamiro Monteiro will have his loan extended through the 2019 season, though a full transfer fee has not yet been agreed upon. Monteiro, a 25-year-old Dutch midfielder, was originally acquired in March on a four-month loan from French second-division side FC Metz.

“It is not a big secret that we will extend his loan until the end of the season, for sure, and we have now the flexibility for that,” Union sporting director Ernst Tanner told The Philly Soccer Page. “That’s the good news.”

Through eight games of his Union career, Monteiro has two goals and two assists. He scored the game-winner in last weekend’s 2-1 victory at Toronto FC.

The Union currently sit atop the Eastern Conference standings through 12 games, narrowly ahead of D.C. United. They host the Seattle Sounders this Saturday (7:30 pm ET | MLS LIVE on ESPN+ in US, on DAZN in Canada) in a meeting of teams in the top five of the early Supporters' Shield race
