Report: Former NYCFC coach Dome Torrent "contacted by several MLS teams"

Dome Torrent arms crossed

When Domenec Torrent parted ways with New York City FC earlier this month after a season and a half in charge, multiple media reports characterized the Spaniard as frustrated with certain aspects of MLS like lengthy travel and roster rules and regulations. Many were convinced that he would seek his next professional destination abroad, despite an ESPN report that he had ā€œdrawn interest from a number of other MLS clubs and could choose to remain in North America.ā€

Not so fast.

On Friday morning New York-area journalist and NYCFC radio host Glenn Crooks reported that there is substance behind the chatter about Torrent possibly staying in the league, revealing that Pep Guardiolaā€™s former right-hand man ā€œhas been contacted by several MLS teams ā€“ and he's listening.ā€

So who might be wooing Torrent?

At present five teams are known to be in the market for a new coach, a list which still includes NYCFC, despite widespread reports that Giovanni van Bronckhorst has been tabbed as Torrentā€™s successor.

Chicago Fire FC, Orlando City SC and Real Salt Lake are also considering their options at present, while expansion side Inter Miami have yet to announce their first head coach ā€“ though owner Jorge Mas said during Tuesdayā€™s Expansion Draft that the selection has been made and will be unveiled in the coming days, which would seem to suggest that Torrent is not their pick.
