FC Cincinnati have identified their next head coach, The Athletic reported on Friday, and he’s a familiar face to new general manager Gerald Nijkamp.

Cincy’s new boss will be Dutchman Ron Jans, according to reporters Jeff Rueter and Sam Stejskal, and all that remains is for Jans to complete the process of attaining his US work visa.

Jans spent the past two years as the director of football at Eredivisie club FC Groningen; before that he managed Dutch side PEC Zwolle from 2013-17. It was Nijkamp who hired him for that post, and the highlight of his tenure there was an upstart run to the KNVB Cup title in his first year in charge.

A prolific striker during his own playing days in the 1970s and ‘80s, Jans has also logged time in charge of Heerenveen and Belgian side Standard Liege.

FCC have been led by interim coach Yoann Damet since dismissing Alan Koch on May 7. The Athletic report cites one source as saying that Damet, a highly respected young coach who has accrued a 3-7 record in league play, will remain on the technical staff following Jans’ arrival.
