D.C. United
have held talks with Everton midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson about a potential move to MLS, according to a Tuesday report from Pablo Maurer of
The Athletic.

Per Maurer, the club has had discussions with Sigurdsson's representatives about a move stateside, although a timeframe remains unclear as the player is under contract with Everton through 2022. The 30-year-old is currently one of the club's highest-paid players, making it seem likely he'd want to play out his contract, but also could make Everton more inclined to move him. Additionally, Colombian star James Rodriguez has been heavily linked with Everton recently, which could wind up impacting Sigurdsson's playing time should that move come to pass.

Sigurdsson, an Iceland international, has been with Everton since 2017, putting up 19 goals in 100 league appearances. He also did a stint with Tottenham Hotspur from 2012-2014, scoring 8 goals in 58 league appearances before a 106-match stint with Swansea City from 2014-2017 that saw him net 26 goals.

Sigurdsson has also been one of Iceland's more productive attacking players at the international level since debuting in 2010, picking up 22 goals in 74 games.
