Inter Miami CF are looking to sign Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos on a free transfer next summer when the center back is out of contract, according to a report from AS journalist Manuel de Juan.

Ramos, 34, is reportedly out of contract after the 2020-21 season and would be available to play wherever he pleases. Ramos has been with Los Blancos since the 2005 season and recently reached 100 goals for the club, posing a constant threat on set pieces and from the penalty-kick spot.

The Miami links are centered around co-owner and director of soccer operations David Beckham, whose own playing days at Real Madrid overlapped with the Spanish defender before he departed for the LA Galaxy in 2007.

Ramos is reportedly negotiating a contract extension with Real Madrid, having made over 650 appearances across all competitions for the club. His current deal is up in June 2021, and he continues to contribute at a high level for the La Liga giants, surely commanding a high salary if he departs.

Should Ramos come to Inter Miami, he’d be the latest European star to join Beckham’s project in south Florida. During this past Secondary Transfer Window, the expansion side landed midfielder Blaise Matuidi and forward Gonzalo Higuain as they both departed Italian side Juventus.

As accomplished as Ramos has been for Real Madrid – he’s won five La Liga titles and lifted four UEFA Champions League trophies – he’s also renowned on the international scene. Ramos’ 175 caps are the most all-time for Spain, beating out goalkeeper Iker Casillas (167), and he’s also scored 23 times. Ramos even won the 2010 FIFA World Cup with Spain, plus two European Championships (2008, ‘12).
