UPDATE (Aug. 11, 2020): Lille confirmed on Tuesday that Canadia international Jonathan David had completed a transfer to the Ligue 1 club. The 20-year-old has signed a five-year deal and will wear the No. 9 jersey, Lille confirmed. The fee has been reported as €30 million.
UPDATE (Aug. 10, 2020): French sports paper L'Equipe is now also reporting that an agreement has been reached between Gent and Lille for the transfer of Jonathan David to the Ligue 1 side, and that he will have his medical at Lille's training facility on Tuesday.
Canada men's national team star Jonathan David is on the move from Belgium to Ligue 1, according to a Thursday report from TSN's Kristian Jack.
Per Jack, Lille have agreed a Canadian-record fee with David's current side Gent that will move the 20-year-old forward to the French club.
It's a big move for David, who has made waves overseas with his gaudy goal-scoring numbers. David hasn't stopped scoring since joining Gent in 2018, netting 14 goals across all competitions in his debut season and racking up another 23 while dishing out 10 assists in 2019-2020.
He's made his mark on the international level, too, with 11 goals in 12 senior caps for Canada.
The news looks set to bring an end to a whirlwind of speculation regarding David's next stop, with Arsenal and Manchester United among those interested, according to previous reports.
