Report: Brazil-based midfielder Johnny Cardoso could be in line for USMNT call-up

Though the status of reported US men's national team friendlies this November has not been officially confirmed, there appears to have been some preliminary movement on the roster front that will be of interest should those games come to pass.

Perhaps one of the most intriguing candidates, and one most USMNT fans probably haven't seen much of, is Brazil-based defensive midfielder Johnny Cardoso (or just "Johnny", as he is known in Brazil).

Brazil's Globo reports that the Internacional 19-year-old is on head coach Berhalter's "pre-list" of players for the November international window — should those games come to pass — and was also set to receive a call-up to the national team for March friendlies at Wales and the Netherlands before they were canceled because of the coronavirus pandemic. This would not be Johnny's first invite to the US setup — he was called up to the U-23 national team in October of last year, an invite Globo reports was extended at Berhalter's request.

Born in Denville, New Jersey, Johnny is eligible to represent the US and Brazil as the son of Brazilian parents. He has spent most of his life in Brazil, and was a product of the Inter academy. He made his professional debut last season for the club, and has played four games so far in the 2020 Serie A.
