Report: Atlanta United executives in Argentina meeting Barros Schelotto

Guillermo Barros Schelotto - Boca Juniors

With Atlanta United focused fully on hosting 2018 MLS Cup against the Portland Timbers on Saturday (8 pm ET | FOX, UniMás, TVAS, TSN), the club still needs to have an eye on 2019.

Head coach Tata Martino has already confirmed he'll be departing the club once the season finishes, so Atlanta have to lock down his replacement. Boca Juniors manager Guillermo Barros Schelotto has long been the frontrunner and, according to Cesar Luis Merlo of TyC Sports in Argentina, ATL executives Darren Eales and Carlos Bocanegra are in Argentina meeting with Barros Schelotto. They are reportedly also meeting with Gabriel Milito.

Barros Schelotto, 45, played four seasons in Columbus, where he scored 33 goals in 102 regular season appearances and helped Crew SC to the 2008 MLS Cup title. He began his managerial career at Lanus, and took charge at Boca in March of 2016, where he has helped the storied club to consecutive Argentine Superliga titles.
