TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Report
With his role at AC Milan diminished this season, Italian World Cup veteran Ignazio Abate is mulling a summer move to MLS, according to a Radio Rossonera report. No specific MLS clubs were named as possible destinations.
Abate, 31, is a fleet-footed right back also capable of filling a wingback or wide midfield role. A product of Milan's youth system who also left the club for stints at Empoli and Torino in addition to several loan moves over the years, he's made nearly two dozen appearances for the Italian national team and saw action during their star-crossed 2014 World Cup campaign in Brazil.
But he's been given only spot duty for Milan under fiery manager Gennaro Gattuso during the current campaign, and appears ready to depart this summer. His current contract runs until next year, though the club is apparently ready to terminate the deal by mutual consent to allow him to make a move.
