Red Bull Arena or Mercedes-Benz Stadium to host 2018 MLS Cup

Red Bulls celebrate in front of supporters

There's four teams left in the Audi 2018 MLS Cup Playoffs. Two of them could host the 2018 MLS Cup final.

The team with the higher number of points during the regular season earns the right to host MLS Cup, and with the New York Red Bulls and Atlanta United both collecting more points than either Sporting Kansas City or the Portland Timbers, we know that the match will be hosted by the winner of the Eastern Conference Championship.

2018 points

  1. New York Red Bulls: 71 points
  2. Atlanta United: 69 points
  3. Sporting Kansas City: 62 points
  4. Portland Timbers: 54 points

The Red Bulls or Five Stripes will be hosting MLS Cup with Red Bull Arena and Mercedes-Benz Stadium being the two possible venues. Both of have been very strong teams at home this season as the Red Bulls have a record of 15-2-1 including playoffs while ATL UTD posted a 12-2-4 record.

Weather would not be a factor if Atlanta were to advance, as the roof will almost assuredly be closed at the Benz. If the Red Bulls advanced, it will most likely be a cold one in Harrison. The average high on Dec. 8, the date of the final, is 45 degrees with the low being 32 degrees. Last year at 8 pm ET, when the match is scheduled to start, the temperature was 36 degrees.
