TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Signing

Real Salt Lake have signed free agent left back Ashtone Morgan, who spent the last nine seasons with Toronto FC

Morgan, 28, made nine MLS appearances with TFC last season and a total of 127 across his near-decade with the club he joined as a 16-year-old academy player. He won an MLS Cup, Supporters’ Shield and five Canadian Championships with his hometown team.

“Ashtone is a player who has tremendous MLS and Champions League experience at a very good organization in this league. He’s won a championship in this league and he’s been on our radar for a long time,” RSL GM Elliot Fall said in a club statement. “We’re really excited to add him to our defensive group, which we feel is already excellent and will only get better with his addition.”

Morgan joins the club after RSL announced club legend Kyle Beckerman would be returning for 2020, continuing their offseason work. He's the club's fifth addition this offseason, following Milan Iloski, Maikel ChangAlvin Jones and Zac MacMath. RSL finished third in the Western Conference last season and advanced to the conference semifinals in the Audi 2019 MLS Cup Playoffs.

RSL open their 2020 season on February 29 against Orlando City SC.

“Ashtone brings experience at left back and comes in to battle for a position so we can get the best out of that position," head coach Freddy Juarez said. "We think we have a very good left back in Donny, but bringing in Ashtone hopefully brings the best out of both of them. We expect him to come in and be a leader, incorporate himself into the group and add some quality to keep us going forward.”
