Raul Ruidiaz, Andy Polo headed to Copa America semis as Peru beat Uruguay

Raul Ruidiaz celebrates with Peru - Seattle Sounders

Raul Ruidiaz and Andy Polo have gotten one step closer to becoming champions of South America.

Peru outlasted Uruguay in the quarterfinals of the Copa America after penalties, as Ruidiaz drilled his spot-kick to help his side advance to the semifinals. Ruidiaz entered from the bench in the 85th minute while Polo was an unused substitute.

It also means that the pair will be away from their club teams for a bit longer. They will face Chile on July 3, but will play another match no matter the result. If they win, the final is July 7. If they lose, the third-place match is the day prior. Argentina and Brazil are the other two semifinalists.

In the meantime, Ruidiaz's Seattle Sounders face the Vancouver Whitecaps on Saturday (10 pm ET | TSN in Canada, MLS LIVE on ESPN+ in US) while Polo's Portland Timbers face FC Dallas on Sunday (11 pm ET | UniMás in US, MLS LIVE on ESPN+ in Canada).
