CHICAGO FIRE 1, SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES 0

SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES HEAD COACH FRANK YALLOP

On the game:
"Obviously the point of soccer is winning, but I am very pleased and proud of the way the guys played today. I think that for us to come out and play that well on both sides of the ball, we should have gotten something out of the game."

On the team's play:
"We increased the number of good chances today from last week and that was encouraging. The energy was great, the commitment to play well was there, and we are a new team that is building and learning. We did enough to get something out of that match not only a draw, but in the chances we had we should have scored at least two goals, but it wasn't meant to be."

On stopping Cuauhtemoc Blanco:
"I don't think we allowed him to play at all. I think that was a credit to us. Each time he had the ball, and we talked about this before the match, let's step into him and make sure he doesn't get a chance to do his thing."

On playing in the Bay Area again:
"It was great to be back here. You get a lump in your throat when you see the guys coming out onto the field. The fans were great today and they were behind the team. They saw a team that tried hard and played well and that is what they want."

SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES MIDFIELDER RAMIRO CORRALES

On returning to Bay Area:
"The fans were great today. They gave us great support and we are excited to be playing in front of them again. Hopefully, we can get a better result next game."

On the team's play:
"We played well, but we were a bit unlucky not to finish. It is still early in the season though, so we just have to come back next game and put the ball in the net."

SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES GOALKEEPER JOE CANNON

On the game:
"It's disappointing just because I think the Bay Area is always a special place to play. It seems like in the past we would get the goals at home and today we didn't."

On the team's improvement:
"When you look at the records of how you do on the road and at home, we improved at home. The crowd we had today was amazing. I think we should have capitalized on it more."

SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES FORWARD GAVIN GLINTON

On the team's chances:
"It was one of those days that the ball just doesn't go in the net. Obviously there was a shield up there in front of their net."

On the team's performance:
"I think that if we weren't playing well, the pressure would be on us more, but today I thought we played really well. We would like to have scored some goals, but they will come."

CHICAGO FIRE HEAD COACH DENIS HAMLETT

On the game:
"We knew coming here was going to be a difficult game. As a group we defended well today, we got our three points and now we'll move forward."

On the upcoming schedule:
"I'll think about Kansas City on Monday. Right now we're going to enjoy this moment. Jon Busch played a great game today. Our three subs came in and did a great job today. The team put a lot into it."

On San Jose:
"San Jose is a good team. We said prior to the game they are an expansion team on paper but they have enough players with experience."

CHICAGO FIRE FORWARD CHAD BARRETT

On the win:
"It's really helpful on the road when you get a lead early and hold on to it. At the end of last year we did it five times in a row, we lost the lead and ended up tying. Today all the credit goes to the defense. All four of them in the back and (Jon) Busch got us the win because they did a great job to preserve our lead."

On the upcoming schedule:
"Next time we'll be at home, we'll be in front of our fans again. I think we need to get the ball back on the ground and start playing. Get it a little more technical at home and just rally off the three points away."

On team's performance:
"I think we worked our counterattack really well, everybody stepped in to the next man making it hard for San Jose to get a clean shot or a good cross."

CHICAGO FIRE GOALKEEPER JON BUSCH

On the shutout win:
"It's the only thing that matters, 1-0 on the road, get three points, that's the only thing that really matters. As for the shutout, it's everybody's; the guys in front of me today were absolutely unbelievable. When Daniel (Woolard) came in, guys were making plays, saving goals and this shutout had nothing to do with me, it had to do with the boys in front of me because they were fantastic today for us."
