Quakes to help launch YES Foundation futsal league

SAN JOSE, Calif. - The San Jose Earthquakes are proud to announce a partnership with the YES (Youth, Education, Sports) Foundation, Mexican American Community Services Agency (MACSA) and the Washington United Youth Center to help launch a new futsal league. The Earthquakes are participating in the kick-off the league on Wednesday, June 22 at the MACSA Youth Center at 660 Sinclair Drive in San Jose starting at 7:30 p.m. PT. Earthquakes players Ryan Cochrane and Wes Hart will participate in the clinic, sign autographs and host a Q & A session.

The Earthquakes will also host all children playing in the league at the June 29 Earthquakes game against the Colorado Rapids at Spartan Stadium through the Quakes Kicks For Kids program. The new futsal league is comprised of children six to 14 years of age from the MACSA Youth Center and Washington United Youth Center.

Futsal is a fast paced, indoor soccer game played with five players to a side. The game is internationally recognized by FIFA, and the U.S. National futsal team finished seventh at the most recent World Futsal Championships in December 2004. The YES Foundation, formed to help meet the challenges of young people in the United States who are in need and at risk, is funding the futsal league through a grant by the United States Soccer Foundation.

The mission of the YES Foundation is to support and develop sports programs and activities, and to provide equipment, uniforms and eventually educational financial assistance to broaden the horizons and further the aspirations of young people in challenging environments. The organization originally started in Baja, Mexico and focuses its efforts in the United States, Baja Sur, Mexico and internationally.
