The Portland Timbers will continue their training camp in Costa Rica with their second friendly, this one coming against Costa Rican first division side CS Herediano, as part of Preseason presented by Advocare.

Portland Timbers

The Timbers are coming off the first match of their preseason, a 4-0 victory over Tico powerhouse Saprissa on Monday. Lucas Melano had a brace in the game.

“We have another group that needs 45 minutes,” Timbers coach Giovanni Savarese explained to the Timbers' website after the game, when asked about goals for the Herediano match. “So, we want to make sure that, now, we start building that group, as well. And then we move forward to travel to Tucson.”

Herediano

The current defending Liga FPD champions, Herediano have enjoyed a major resurgence in recent years and have become perennial entrants in Concacaf Champions League, including the upcoming 2019 tournament, after they won the 2018 Concacaf League, a new tournament for Central American and Caribbean club teams.

Expect to see reserves playing the Timbers, considering the club is currently in their domestic season, but there is a collection of longtime Costa Rican internationals, up-and-coming Costa Rican internationals, a few Mexican players, including veterans Edgar Lugo and Antonio Pedroza, and some former MLS players, including Jose Guillermo Ortiz and Jose Leiton.
