Portland Timbers sign defender Zac McGraw, 2020 MLS SuperDraft pick out of West Point

TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS:Signing

The Portland Timbers on Monday announced they had signed 2020 MLS SuperDraft third-round selection Zac McGraw to a first-team contract, making the 6-foot-4 defender the first-ever player from the U.S. Military Academy to sign with an MLS club.

McGraw made 68 appearances (66 starts) in four collegiate seasons for the Black Knights, making the Patriot League first team in all four seasons.

He will be the first active MLS player from any of the nation's service academies since Naval Academy graduate Joseph Greenspan spent the 2015-2017 seasons in the league, with the Colorado Rapids and then Minnesota United.

Portland's Cascadia rival Seattle Sounders recently selected attacking midfielder Tucker Bone out of the Air Force Academy during the 2019 draft, but he was never signed. He now plays for the USL's Reno 1868 FC.
