Poll: Who should coach the MLS All-Star team?

Peter Nowak

The news that Peter Nowak is out as the head coach of the Philadelphia Union has meaning well beyond the City of Brotherly Love.

Who should replace Peter Nowak as All-Star coach?

Most notably, what happens with the MLS All-Star team?

Nowak was penciled in as the head coach of the MLS team when it was announced earlier this year that PPL Park will host the game against Chelsea—- but with Wednesday's news, so much for that. The end of the Nowak era in Philly means there’s a search on for his replacement on July 25, when the All-Stars try and grab their first win against an EPL opponent since 2008.

But who will get the call? It’s no safe assumption the league won’t pick Nowak’s replacement, John Hackworth, because of proximity. But what about some of the other successful coaches around?

How about Jason Kreis, who has piloted Real Salt Lake to the best record in the league this season? Maybe D.C. United’s Ben Olsen, who has his club atop the Eastern Conference, or Hans Backe, who has the Red Bulls nipping on D.C.’s heels and coached in last year’s game?

Or maybe Frank Yallop, who has the San Jose Earthquakes out to a red-hot start this season? Perhaps someone should even dial up Eric Wynalda, who recently led amateur side Cal FC to the fourth round of the US Open Cup.
