Philadelphia Union 1, Los Angeles Football Club 1 | 2019 MLS Match Recap

The Philadelphia Union and LAFC matched each other all night en route to a 1-1 draw in match played with playoff-like intensity at Talen Energy Stadium.

Union forward Kacper Przybylko backed up his talk and put the home side up after just three minutes, but LAFC's MVP-candidate Carlos Vela scored in his return from injury to level.

Przybylko's goal was the icing on a nicely worked play that began with goalkeeper Andre Blake's outlet that was flicked on to Alejandro Bedoya. The Union captain advanced the ball to Fafa Picault who lobbed a ball up for Pryzbylko to head over Tyler Miller

Blake kept the Union in the game with a fantastic save on a blast from Eduard Atuesta, and then well-timed reads to eliminate breaks from Adama Diamonde and Diego Rossi. However Vela broke through when he put away a rebound off the cross bar from a shot-cross by Mark-Anthony Kaye to score his MLS-leading 28th goal of the year after missing the last two matches with an injury.

Three Things

  • THE BIG PICTURE: Philadelphia proved — once again — that they are no pushovers, having defeated the defending champs in their last outing, and drawn the likely Shield winners on Saturday night. While LAFC has already clinched the West, they've now hit a bit of a rut as they're winless in their last four.

  • MOMENT OF THE MATCH
: Big reason for the draw, this amazing save by Blake:

  • MAN OF THE MATCH: See above...It wasn't just that save, Blake also frustrated LAFC by cutting off angles a few times before they could even get shots off.
