The Colorado Rapids have acquired American goalkeeper William Yarbrough on loan from Liga MX side Club Leon, Colorado announced Friday.

Yarbrough, 30, has played his entire professional career at Leon, including a stretch of five consecutive seasons as the club's No. 1 choice in goal, in which he helped La Fiera to two Liga MX titles. In the past two years, however, he has only played in seven league matches.

“One of our objectives over the offseason was to build a roster deep with talent and to foster competition all over the field and this signing further helps us achieve that,” Rapids EVP and GM said Pádraig Smith in a club statement. “The opportunity to bring in a player of Will’s quality doesn’t come around every day, so we’re excited to have him join our already strong goalkeeping group.”

Born in Mexico to American parents, Yarbrough has made three appearances with the US national team, the last of which in 2016. He becomes the fourth goalkeeper on the Rapids' roster.

Colorado kicked off their MLS season with a 2-1 road victory over D.C. United on Saturday, with Clint Irwin in goal and Andre Rawls as the backup.
