Nunez called up to Honduran national team

Chivas USA midfielder Ramón Núñez has been called up by Honduran National Team coach Reinaldo Rueda for the Catrachos' upcoming friendlies against Costa Rica (Sept. 9 in Boston, Mass.) and Ecuador (Sept. 12 in San Pedro Sula, Honduras). Núñez is expected to fly to the East Coast on Sept. 7, one day after Chivas USA's Thursday night match against D.C. United at The Home Depot Center.

"I am honored, as always, to have been called up by Honduras," said the 21-year-old Núñez. "I hope to work hard and give my best effort, in hopes of making my debut with the full national side."

Born in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, and raised in Dallas, Texas, Núñez was acquired by Chivas USA on Aug. 15 in a trade with FC Dallas. Although he has yet to play for Honduras' senior national team, he was previously called up by Honduras in 2006 for a pair of exhibition matches against Guatemala in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Previously, Núñez represented Honduras at the youth national team level, including at the 2005 FIFA World Youth Championship in Holland.

"We are pleased for Ramón and hope he will gain valuable experience during his time with the Honduran National Team," said Chivas USA Head Coach Preki. "We look forward to having him back in Chivas USA's camp as we prepare for a series of important league matches in late September and early October."

Honduras manager Rueda has reportedly called up a full strength squad for the pair of friendlies, both of which fall on FIFA international match dates. Other players called up include experienced Honduran internationals David Suazo (Inter Milan, Italy), Julio César León (Genoa, Italy) Maynor Suazo (FC Köln, Germany) and Carlos Pavón (LA Galaxy, MLS).

Núñez is expected to be back and available for selection for Chivas USA's match against the LA Galaxy in the fourth and decisive Honda Super Clásico of 2007 on Sept. 13 at The Home Depot Center.
