Separated by just three points in a crowded Eastern Conference table, longtime rivals meet in a critical Saturday night showdown when the New York Red Bulls host the New England Revolution at Red Bull Arena.
The Red Bulls (11-10-4) enter the match in fifth place in the East after a 4-2 loss to LAFC in a Sunday night thriller at Banc of California Stadium. After conceding two goals in quick succession midway through the first half, the Red Bulls clawed back into it on goals by Cristian Casseres and Brian White to head into halftime level. But led by Carlos Vela, who had a goal and two assists (all on set pieces), the hosts struck twice more to pull away.
The Revolution (9-9-7) also played a six-goal thriller, but came away with a point from CenturyLink Field following a 3-3 draw with the Seattle Sounders Saturday afternoon. Goals came in spurts in this one too, with Michael Mancienne and Gustavo Bou scoring eight minutes apart to give the Revs a 2-1 lead after Harry Shipp struck for the first goal after two minutes. Shipp leveled in the 65th and one minute later Nico Lodeiro put the hosts back in front before Carles Gill equalized three minutes from full time.
This is the second meeting this year with the Revs winning 1-0 at Gillette Stadium in April courtesy of Cristian Penilla's 73rd-minute goal. .
