New York Red Bulls center back Amro Tarek underwent successful minor ankle surgery last week and is expected to miss 4-6 weeks, the club announced Thursday. He picked up the injury in the Red Bulls' loss to the Seattle Sounders on September 15.

Tarek, 27, joined the Red Bulls this offseason following a trade from Orlando City SC and has had a productive season, making 20 appearances for the club who lifted the 2018 Supporters' Shield.

The Red Bulls sit fifth place in the Eastern Conference heading into Decision Day presented by AT&T, though just one point behind fourth place and a Round One home playoff game.
