New York City FC rook Jack Harrison wins MLS Player of the Week for Week 17

New York City FC at long last won their first match in the Hudson River Derby, and they have their rookie sensation to thank.

Jack Harrison scored one goal and assisted on the other to lift NYCFC to a 2-0 triumph over the New York Red Bulls at Yankee Stadium this past Sunday. Harrison's headline-grabbing performance saw him win MLS Player of the Week for Week 17, as voted on by the North American Soccer Reporters (NASR).

Starting in his first game in the series between the New York clubs, the 19-year-old Harrison netted the winner in the eighth minute when got on the end of a corner kick from Andrea Pirlo, flicked a ball past Mike Grella, and fired low to beat Luis Robles.

Harrison then set up David Villa for an insurance goal in the second half, feeding the star striker with an inch-perfect pass in the 66th minute.

The youngster's outing drew rave reviews from head coach Patrick Vieira and teammates, and Harrison is now looking to build on that when NYCFC face the New England Revolution at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts, on Wednesday night (7:30 pm ET, MLS LIVE).
