The New England Revolution announced the acquisition of Colombian midfielder Luis Alberto Caicedo on Thursday, signing the 21-year-old on a season-long loan from Colombian second-division club Cortulua using Targeted Allocation Money (TAM), with a permanent transfer option for 2019.

A center mid who can fill a holding role or work box-to-box, Caicedo will be added to the Revs’ roster pending the receipt of his International Transfer Certificate (ITC) and P-1 Visa, and will occupy an international roster slot.

“We are pleased to add a young player in Luis who displays significant potential at the midfield position," Revolution GM Mike Burns said in a club release. “We believe Luis will help strengthen our central midfield and add to the competition at the position."

Caicedo made 70 league appearances (67 starts) for Cortulua from 2015-18, contributing three goals and helping the club reach the top flight in 2016. He previously spent time on the books at Portuguese giants Sporting CP, where he featured for the reserve side in lower-division action during the 2014-15 season.
