TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Signing

The New England Revolution have signed goalkeeper Earl Edwards Jr. as a free agent, the club announced Saturday. Entering his seventh MLS season in 2021, Edwards arrives in New England following two years with D.C. United and four prior seasons with Orlando City SC.

The 28-year-old has been limited to six regular season appearances across six MLS seasons— all with Orlando City SC. The last two years he's spent as Bill Hamid's backup at D.C. United, a role he'll continue in New England behind Matt Turner. Edwards featured extensively for D.C. United's USL Championship affiliate, Loudoun United FC. Edwards, who played under Revolution Assistant Coach Richie Williams in 2019, registered 16 appearances for Loudoun.

Prior to joining D.C. United via a trade, Edwards spent the first four years of his professional career with Orlando City SC, which selected him in the third round (43rd overall) of the 2015 MLS SuperDraft. He made six MLS appearances in league play for Orlando, and six additional starts in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. The San Diego, Calif. native was named to the USL Championship’s All-League Second Team in 2017 after submitting nine shutouts in 23 appearances for Orlando City B.
