Ignacio Piatti Player of the Week 16

Ignacio Piatti enjoyed a banner evening in the Montreal Impact’s 3-0 victory over Orlando City SC on Wednesday, scoring two goals, a performance that's earned him Alcatel MLS Player of the Week honors for Week 16 as voted on by the North American Soccer Reporters (NASR).

"Nacho" opened the scoring from the penalty spot just five minutes after the opening whistle, then netted his second as an injury-time exclamation point in the 92nd minute as the Lions’ back line were torn to shreds. He also played a role in the buildup to Montreal’s second tally, an own goal by Amro Tarek.

Beyond his goals, the Argentinean maestro also completed 20 of his 24 passes, including three key passes, and competed four of his eight dribbles to inspire the Quebec side to their second win in their last three games.

It’s the second PotW prize for Piatti, who also won the award in Week 10. The playmaker has now scored seven goals and six assists for the Impact, both team highs. He also earned a spot in the Week 16 Team of the Week presented by Audi.

The Alcatel MLS Player of the Week is chosen each week of the regular season by members of the North American Soccer Reporters. The organization includes print, television, radio and online journalists who cover domestic men's soccer in the United States and Canada.
