Montreal Impact ink Maxi Urruti to extension through 2021 using TAM

The Montreal Impact announced on Thursday that Argentine striker Maximiliano Urruti has signed a new three-year contract with the club, with an option year for 2022, using Targeted Allocation Money.


The Impact acquired Urruti in early December from FC Dallas, in exchange for $75,000 in TAM and a first-round pick in the 2019 MLS SuperDraft, which Dallas used to select fullback John Nelson. His previous contract, signed last March while with Dallas, ran through 2020.


The 27-year-old has 44 goals and 25 assists in 162 regular season games He has also scored twice in nine MLS Cup Playoff games, helping the Portland Timbers win their first ever MLS Cup in 2015.


More recently, the Argentine finished first or tied for first in goals scored for FC Dallas in each of his three seasons in Frisco. His 29 goals over that span tie him for 11th in terms of total production in MLS in that stretch.


Urruti holds his American green card and does not count as an international player.
