Montreal Impact decline to pick up options on four players, including defender Matteo Ferrari

The Montreal Impact announced on Friday that the club will not be picking up its option for the 2015 season on defenders Matteo Ferrari (pictured above) and Mamadou 'Futty' Danso (contract ended in 2014), as well as midfielders James Bissue and Zakaria Messoudi.

Ferrari, 35, is the most notable depature. The Italian has been with the club since its inaugural MLS season in 2012 and registered a goal and an assist in 81 MLS appearances. Danso, 31, spent his first three-and-a-half years in the league with the Portland Timbers before being acquired by Montreal on June 2, 2014, and he made three appearances for Montreal in MLS play.

Bissue, who was acquired at the Sept. 15, 2014 roster freeze deadline, and Messoudi, a Homegrown signing in 2013, leave the Impact without a first-team appearance.

"These are not easy decisions to make, but we must look forward," said head coach and Director of Player Personnel Frank Klopas in a statement. "We had mentioned on Monday that there would be changes. The difficulty in having these players returning lies in our salary cap.  I want to thank them for their services with our club."

Per an Impact news release, other roster changes are expected in the coming weeks.
