The Montreal Impact have acquired center back Luis Binks from Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur, the club announced Tuesday.

Binks, 18, played more than 2,000 minutes across matches with the club's U-18, U-19 and U-23 sides last year, including eight starts in the Premier League 2 with the U-23s. He has represented England internationally from U-16 through U-19 as well as Scotland with the U-16 and U-18 teams.

“We are very happy to acquire this young player with a very high ceiling,” Impact sporting director Olivier Renard said in a statement. “Luis has chosen this club and Montreal to continue his career. He is a defender with high passing quality, who has shown great maturity on the field since the start of camp in St. Petersburg. We hope he’ll integrate well into the group and acclimate quickly to MLS.”

The center back joins just ahead of the club's foray into the Concacaf Champions League, bolstering head coach Thierry Henry's options at the position this season. He's the second center back to join this offseason, following Joel Waterman

Montreal face Saprissa in the CCL on Wednesday and open their MLS season on February 29 against the New England Revolution.
