MLS Secondary Transfer Window opens Tuesday: Here's what we know so far

The Major League Soccer secondary transfer window is set to open on Tuesday, July 9 and will run through August 7. Teams will again be able to register new signings starting tomorrow.

Per FIFA regulations, MLS teams are able to request International Transfer Certificates (ITC) from players' former clubs to complete signings, loans and transfer deals. While deals can otherwise be completed outside the transfer windows, receipt of a player's ITC is required in order to add players to official rosters and for those players to be eligible to play in competitive matches.

A number of deals have already been completed leading up to the window.

Columbus Crew SC signed Costa Rican winger Luis Diaz to a Young Designated Player deal and added Curacao goalkeeper Eloy Room. The Vancouver Whitecaps struck a deal to make Ali Adnan's loan a permanent one, though he was unable to feature for the club last weekend due to a gap in his initial loan expiring and the window opening. He'll be eligible once again on Tuesday.

FC Cincinnati added Dutch center back Maikel van der Werff, FC Dallas acquired Ghanian winger Edwin Gyasi, Atlanta United signed former US youth national team star Emerson Hyndman and San Jose added Mexican winger Carlos Fierro. All of this is before the window even opened.

The opening of the transfer window also means that the trade window within MLS for players will once again open. In accordance with the transfer window, the trade window for players is open until August 8. Trades for non-player assets, including international roster slots, allocation money, allocation order slots and MLS SuperDraft picks, can take place outside the transfer window periods.

The Crew have been active early in that market, too, acquiring Romario Williams from Atlanta.

The 2019 Roster Freeze Date is August 30, 2019, at which time clubs must submit their final 30-man roster. Rosters cannot be changed from that date through the day after MLS Cup.
