MLS Reserves: Columbus 1, New England 0

Jason Garey's 10th-minute goal stood as the game-winner as the Columbus Crew reserves earned a 1-0 victory over the New England Revolution reserves on Sunday morning at Crew Stadium.

Garey put Columbus (1-2-1, 4 pts.) up early, converting George Josten's cross from the right, slotting home past Revs goalkeeper Doug Warren on the far post.

Newly-signed New England (0-3-1, 1 pt.) midfielder Brandon Manzonelli had a chance to equalize in the 45th minute, taking Khano Smith's short feed off a free kick and sending it through Columbus' wall and on frame, but Crew keeper Kenny Schoeni made the save to preserve the score line.

Warren kept the Revs in the game with four second-half saves - and five total in the game - including two on Crew midfielder Cory Elenio's knuckling shots from distance.

New England thought it had drawn a penalty-kick opportunity early in the second half when Argenis Fernandez made a move by Crew defender Andrew Peterson and went to ground after a tackle. But instead of a penalty kick being signaled, referee Hilario Grajeda showed Fernandez a yellow card for exaggeration.

Schoeni did not make a save in recording the shutout.

The Revolution reserves return to action on Friday, May 30, when they host the D.C. United Reserves at 10 a.m. on the Lower Practice Field at Gillette Stadium.
