MLS postpones next three Colorado Rapids league matches

MLS announced that the next three Colorado Rapids matches will be postponed, spanning the next 10 days: at Seattle on Oct. 14, vs. Real Salt Lake on Oct. 18 and vs. Sporting Kansas City on Oct. 21.

The league confirmed that there have been no new confirmed cases of COVID-19 among Rapids staff and players, but the decision was made based on the total number of current cases and in consultation with the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment.

Those individuals who continue to test negative will have the ability to attend team training but will otherwise remain quarantined.

The league previously rescheduled four other Rapids matches since Sept. 26 and it is evaluating options for rescheduling the impacted matches:

A Rapids player and three members of the club's staff first received confirmed positive COVID-19 results after tests conducted on Sept. 24-25. On Sept. 28 it was announced that an additional Rapids player and seven club staff members received confirmed positive tests. Subsequently, three more Rapids players and two additional staff members received confirmed positives as revealed on Oct. 1, Oct. 7 and Oct. 9.

Rapids players resumed training on Monday, October 5.

Following the latest postponements, Colorado's next scheduled league match is set for Saturday, Oct. 24 at Sporting Kansas City. The last match played by the Rapids was on Wednesday, Sept. 23 against the San Jose Earthquakes, a match they won 5-0.

The Rapids currently occupy the eighth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference with 19 points from 13 matches played (5W-4L-4D record). The 2020 MLS regular season is scheduled to conclude on November 8.
