MLS Fantasy Rewind: Roland Alberg a surprise star for Round 15

Roland Alberg - Philadelphia Union - celebrates a goal

As the Copa America Centenario wrapped up this weekend, and Euro 2016 chugged along, we got ourselves another diverse MLS Fantasy Dream Team.

The hero of the week, selected by all of 0.2% of fantasy managers, was Roland Alberg ($8.4m) who finished with a whopping 28 points on a double game week (DGW). Last round, Alberg opened his 2016 MLS account with a goal in 45 minutes, but that didn’t exactly catch the attention of MLS Fantasy managers. His poacher’s hat trick (two rebound goals and a penalty kick) on Wednesday was good for 19 points, and then he followed it up with another goal on the weekend. Maybe it’s time to put him on your team.

Diego Valeri ($11.0m) is a much more known property in MLS Fantasy and he gave his owners a great 18-point performance with a brace, an assist, and a handful of bonuses. His price has gone up a full $1 since the beginning of the season as he continues to pay off week after week.

Goalkeeper of the week was Brian Rowe ($4.8m), who appears to have the LA Galaxy starting goalkeeper spot locked up after some early season competition. Since he didn’t start as the clear No. 1, he’s still available at a less than starting keeper price.

Our fantasy manager of the week goes to The Volunteers of Hank Stebbins, who took the Alberg tip and ran with it, captaining him for a cool 56 points. Valeri was his only other double-digit performer, but that was a 74-point base off which to build. Congratulations and enjoy your prize!

Two if by sea …

Here’s what you know going into Round 16:

  • The round begins on Friday, with a transfer deadline of 8 p.m. ET on July 1st
  • The round doesn’t end until next Wednesday with New England vs. New York City
  • That puts the Revolution and NYCFC on double game weeks

This weekend in the United States is a time for barbecue and fireworks, but it’s also a time to remember the work done by the nation’s founders. Speaking of Revolution, with their double game week I’m certainly going to take a look at who has been performing well for them. London Woodberry ($5.0m) is a good buy if you’re looking for an easy-to-add defender, but if you aren’t already rolling with Lee Nguyen ($11.8m) that’s a high price-tag for someone who can be a streaky fantasy contributor.
