MLS Disciplinary Committee suspends FC Dallas winger Fabian Castillo for making contact with match official

Fabian Castillo celebrates his US Open Cup goal against San Antonio

Fabian Castillo has been one of the star players for FC Dallas in their rise to 4th place in the Western Conference.

But he's going to have to sit out a while.

On Thursday the MLS Disciplinary Committee suspended him four matches and fined him an undisclosed amount for making contact with a match official following the conclusion of the June 11 match against the Portland Timbers.

The four-match suspension consists of two games for the post-game red card issued to Castillo for violent conduct as well as two additional games imposed by the MLS Disciplinary Committee.

According to a league statement, Castillo appealed the suspension via the MLS Players Union, but an independent review panel upheld the Disciplinary Committee's decision.

Castillo already served one of the four league matches by sitting out Sunday's 0-0 draw against Columbus. He will also miss the following dates: July 4 (vs. Philadelphia), July 19 (vs. New England) and July 27 (at Vancouver). The first MLS league match he will be eligible to play is the August 3 game at Chivas USA.

The four-match suspension does not apply to US Open Cup action. FC Dallas will feature in a July 8 quarterfinal at the Carolina Railhawks.
