MLS Disciplinary Committee fines three players, Seattle Sounders and Brian Schmetzer

The MLS Disciplinary Committee has fined three players, one team and one head coach following the Conference semifinal round of the Audi 2019 MLS Cup Playoffs.


Luiz hands to the face, head or neck of opponent; failure to leave the field in a timely manner

The Disciplinary Committee has fined Real Salt Lake midfielder Everton Luiz an undisclosed amount after violating the league's policy regarding hands to the face, head or neck of an opponent. The incident took place in the 84th minute of RSL's game against Seattle on Oct. 23.

In addition, the Disciplinary Committee fined Luiz an undisclosed amount for failure to leave the field in a timely and orderly manner after receiving a red card in the 84th minute on Oct. 23.


Seattle mass confrontation

The Disciplinary Committee has found the Seattle Sounders in violation of the mass confrontation policy. The incident took place in the 84th minute of their game against Real Salt Lake on Oct. 23. This is the fourth violation of the mass confrontation policy by the Sounders this season, and the organization and head coach Brian Schmetzer have both been fined undisclosed amounts.


Santos simulation/embellishment

The Disciplinary Committee has fined Philadelphia Union forward Sergio Santos an undisclosed amount after finding him guilty of simulation/embellishment. The incident took place in the 41st minute of the Oct. 24 game against Atlanta.


Escobar simulation/embellishment

The Disciplinary Committee has fined Atlanta United defender Franco Escobar an undisclosed amount after finding him guilty of simulation/embellishment. The incident happened in the 54th minute of the Oct. 24 match against Philadelphia.
