MLS community reacts to the passing of civil rights icon John Lewis

The world lost a legend with Saturday's news that civil rights icon and Georgia congressman John Lewis had passed away at 80 after a battle with cancer.


Lewis, who served as the US representative for Georgia's 5th Congressional District for more than three decades, was one of the most respected figures of his generation for his work in the civil rights movement, for which he's been a leading figure in the non-violent struggle for equality and justice for over five decades. The values he fought for have never been more relevant as protests throughout the nation and world continue following the murder of George Floyd.


Major League Soccer released the following statement on Lewis's passing:
