MLS cancels 2020 Generation adidas Cup due to COVID-19 pandemic

Major League Soccer has canceled this year's Generation adidas Cup due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the league announced Thursday. The GA Cup is the premier youth tournament in the country. 


The GA Cup follows MLS, US Soccer, USL, NBA, NHL and many more sporting events across the country in suspending play due to the virus.

Based on advice from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and other public health authorities in consideration for the health and safety of the players, team staffs, and community, and in light of the new travel restrictions imposed by the United States government, Major League Soccer has canceled the Generation adidas Cup.


The GA Cup was scheduled to run from April 4-11 in Frisco, Texas. Forty youth soccer academies from 11 countries were set to take part in this year's edition.


Last year, Danny Leyva led the Seattle Sounders to victory in the tournament.
