TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Released
Mears, 35, was in his first season with the Loons, having made 11 appearances, scoring one goal. Prior to his selection in the Re-Entry Draft by Minnesota, Mears played one season with Atlanta United, making 20 appearances in the Five Stripes' first season, and two seasons with the Seattle Sounders, winning the 2016 MLS Cup there while making 55 MLS regular season appearances for the Cascadia outfit.
Minnesota's release indicated that Mears, an England native who played most of his career in his native country, would be returning to play for a second-division club.
“We thank Tyrone for his service to the club and the community,” said MNUFC head coach Adrian Heath in a team statement. “We felt this was the right move for Tye at this time, to go back home and be closer to his family and play his football in the Championship in England. We wish him well.”
