Decision Day

Minnesota United 3, FC Dallas 0 | 2020 MLS Match Recap

Minnesota United finished the MLS regular season in strong form, picking up a dominant 3-0 win over FC Dallas at Allianz Field on Sunday and securing fourth spot in the Western Conference.

The hosts got off to a flying start, creating multiple opportunities and quickly getting on the board with Kevin Molino's 17th-minute goal. Robin Lod passed to Emanuel Reynoso, who then found Molino making a run into the box before finishing inside the box.

Minnesota maintained that dominance for the most part, though Dallas had a few of their own chances. Most notably, Dallas' Michael Barrios had a shot on goal in the 21st minute that was saved by Brent Kallman through a miraculous goal-line clearance with his head.

Minnesota continued the momentum in the second half, and quickly began to put the game out of reach with Reynoso's goal in the 47th minute. The ex-Boca Juniors playmaker combined again with Lod and Molino before dispatching a first-time shot from the edge of the penalty area.

Minnesota killed things off with Molino's second in the 79th minute, again featuring assists from Lod and Reynoso before he converted from close range.

Three Things

  • THE BIG PICTURE: In a match with plenty of shots at both ends, Minnesota reigned supreme because they made their chances count. For the second season running Minnesota finish in a highly impressive fourth place in the West, while Dallas have to settle for sixth spot and a trip to the Portland Timbers.
  • MOMENT OF THE MATCH: Dallas picked up some momentum quickly after conceding the first goal, but Brent Kallman put a major dent in their chances to equalize with this goal-line clearance in the 21st minute.
  • MAN OF THE MATCH: It is hard to single out one of the trio of Kevin Molino, Emanuel Reynoso, and Robin Lod on a night all three were involved in each goal, but Reynoso stood just above the rest with two assists and a goal, creating six chances in the process.
