Midfielder Schopp undergoes successful surgery

SECAUCUS, NJ - Red Bull New York announced today that midfielder Markus Schopp underwent successful surgery yesterday in Munich, Germany to repair a sports hernia. Dr. Ulrike Muschaweck performed a Minimal Repair Technique, which is a procedure developed and performed exclusively by Muschaweck.


Schopp is expected to need 2-4 weeks to recover. The former Austrian international and national team captain was signed by the Red Bulls on Sept. 15 last year and played five regular season games, starting in one.


The Red Bulls (1-0-1) return to action on Saturday, April 21 when they play the Houston Dynamo, the defending MLS Cup champion. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. and the match will be televised live on Fox Soccer Channel.
