The Houston Dynamo announced Monday that they've re-signed midfielder Boniek Garcia to a contract for the 2018 season.

The 33-year-old Honduran international has played all six of his previous MLS seasons with Houston. He ranks second in club history with 31 league assists and 33 across all competitions.

“We are pleased to have come to an agreement to bring Boniek Garcia back to the Houston Dynamo for the 2018 season,” said Dynamo GM Matt Jordan in a team release. “He is a versatile player who always puts the team first and is ready to help our group in a variety of roles. His veteran leadership, especially for our younger players, will be important as we build for the 2018 season.”

Garcia made 20 appearances, including 12 starts, this year to help Houston reach their first postseason since 2013.

“Boniek García is a very talented and experienced player. He is a leader in the locker room for our team, especially with the Latino players. He is unbelievably professional,” said Dynamo coach Wilmer Cabrera in a statement.

Garcia joined the Dynamo during the 2012 season as the second Designated Player in club history. He helped lead the team reach the 2012 MLS Cup, earning Players’ Player of the Year honors in his first campaign with four goals and six assists in just 17 games.

Garcia has 125 caps for Honduras, fourth-most in his country’s history. His 11 assists are the most among active players for Los Catrachos.
