Merritt Paulson: "There is no coaching job in MLS bigger than the Timbers"

MLS Cup - 2015 - Merritt Paulson

If the big MLS coaching story at the moment revolves around the LA Galaxy's search to replace Bruce Arena, it appears Caleb Porter will not be playing any part.

That's based on the words of Porter's boss, Portland Timbers owner Merritt Paulson, who told The Oregonian's Jamie Goldberg on Monday that Porter "is happy here and we are happy with him. He isn't going anywhere."

Porter has been rumored as a potential candidate for the Galaxy's head coaching vacancy, and Galaxy president Chris Klein confirmed on Monday that LA is asking several MLS clubs permission to speak with their head coaches, increasing speculation Porter could be one of those candidates.

But Goldberg reached out to Paulson for comment on a possible link between Porter and the Galaxy. In addition to denying Porter, who won MLS Cup in 2015 with the Timbers, will be leaving the club, Paulson offered a rebuke to those who would consider the Galaxy's coaching job the biggest in the league.

"I am surprised by the question as there is no coaching job in MLS bigger than the Timbers," Paulson was quoted in The Oregonian report.
