MLS expansion side LAFC will take the next step toward their 2018 launch with a groundbreaking event for their brand new downtown soccer stadium on Tuesday.

The event, which will be streamed live on the club's Facebook page, will feature several members of LAFC's ownership group, who will be joined by Los Angeles mayor Eric Garcetti and Major League Soccer commissioner Don Garber on Tues., Aug. 23 at 10 am PT to commemorate the groundbreaking of the new soccer-specific stadium project.

The stadium, located in the city of Los Angeles and expected to seat 22,000, is the first brand new, open-air stadium project to be built in the city since Dodger Stadium in 1962. It will be located next to the iconic Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum on the site of the LA Sports Arena, which was closed earlier this year.

The club first announced plans for a new downtown soccer stadium back in May 2015 and on May 8 of this year released their latest renderings. The facility will be accessible via public transportation, including the LA Metro Rail with a stop on the extended Expo line.
