LAFC announce signing of young goalkeeper Pablo Sisniega

Pablo Sisniega - LAFC

LAFC announced an addition to their goalkeeper ranks on Monday, with the signing of Pablo Sisniega from Spanish side Real Sociedad.

Sisniega, 23, is a native of Mexico, but also holds US and German citizenship. As a result, he will not occupy an international roster slot.

“Pablo is a young and exciting goalkeeper with a bright future ahead of him,” said general manager and EVP of soccer operations John Thorrington in a team statement. “He will bring valuable experience from his time in Spain and add depth and competition to the group.”

Sisniega turned pro with Real Sociedad, which also happens to be the former club of LAFC's star forward, Carlos Vela. The goalkeeper had yet to make his debut for La Real's first team, and had been sidelined with significant injuries, including having his spleen removed after a collision during a game, in the past.

The player comes from a sporting family, as both of his parents have competed in the Olympics. Father Ivar Sisniega was a four-time competitor in the modern pentathlon and was Mexico's flag-bearer at the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, while mother Cristina Fink competed for Mexico in the high jump.

Sisniega becomes LAFC's second goalkeeper on the roster, alongside Tyler Miller, who is expected to be the starter again in 2019. The Black & Gold open the 2019 MLS regular season on March 3 at home against Sporting KC.
