After his star turn in the season's opening match against the Chicago Fire, it seemed Efrain Alvarez's first goal in a LA Galaxy jersey was soon in the offing. But he and the Galaxy had to wait four more months to see it.

The 16-year-old playmaker scored twice in the Galaxy's 3-0 win over Orange County FC in the U.S. Open Cup on Wednesday night. Alvarez had played 121 minutes this season in MLS before making the start against OCFC in the Open Cup.

The Homegrown Player led a comeback against the Fire on March 2, including a stellar assist to equalize the match, but has failed to carve out a regular role under Guillermo Barros Schelotto partly due to international call-ups.

His first goal came off a beautiful set piece (watch above), while his second was a tap-in after a bad giveaway from OCFC (watch below).

Alvarez scored 12 goals for LA Galaxy II in the USL Championship last season and recently participated in the Under-17 World Cup with the Mexican national team.
