The LA Galaxy have re-signed goalkeeper Jonathan Klinsmann, the club announced Friday. He originally signed for the club in August of last year.

Klinsmann, 23, made four MLS starts at the end of 2020. He joined after playing for Swiss Super League club St. Gallen for the 2019 campaign, though was on the outside looking in for playing time. He began his career with Hertha BSC, though never debuted for their senior side.

He's also featured extensively for US youth national teams, most notably at the 2017 FIFA U-20 World Cup.

“Jonathan is a talented player who gained valuable experience with our team last season,” GM Dennis te Kloese said in a club statement. “We are pleased to further strengthen our goalkeeper position and we look forward to his continued growth as an LA Galaxy player.”

Klinsmann is the son of former US men’s national team manager Jurgen Klinsmann. Germany-born, he was raised in Southern California and played for the University of California, Berkeley in 2016 before heading overseas. He also had youth stops at Pateadores FC and at Irvine Strikers FC.

The news comes just a day after the club officially signed fellow GK Jonathan Bond from West Brom. Klinsmann and Bond are likely to battle for the starting job, while Eric Lopez and Justin Vom Steeg round out the depth chart.
