Acosta, Rooney tame visiting Lions
It's now safe to say that nobody will be questioning Wayne Rooney's place in MLS. With mere moments to go in a tie game on Sunday, the D.C. United star raced 70 yards to win the ball off an Orlando player with his side's net empty. He then turned right around to provide a pinpoint long diagonal ball for Lucho Acosta to complete his hat trick and give D.C. a stunning 3-2 win against guests Orlando City. BMO smash & grab for NYCFC
There was plenty of other drama to savor on Sunday. Ismael Tajouri-Shradi's second goal of the game came with two minutes left to earn New York City FC a 3-2 triumph away to 10-man Toronto FC. The victory moved NYCFC to within a point of idle Supporters’ Shield leaders Atlanta United. RECAP
Sounders’ streak continues
Over in Seattle, the red-hot Sounders scored their fifth consecutive win, topping West leaders FC Dallas 2-1. After a miserable start to the season, the Emerald City crew are now just three points out of a playoff spot. RECAP
Standard-setting BWP snuffs out Fire
New York Red Bulls strike ace Bradley Wright-Phillips became the first player in league history to bag 15 goals in five straight seasons by hitting the second half winner in their 1-0 triumph at Chicago. ‘Caps end Portland's bulletproof run
Vancouver rode first half tallies from Kei Kamara and Cristian Techera to a 2-1 road win that snapped Portland's club record-tying 15-match unbeaten streak. Elsewhere out West, Colorado have won two straight following a 2-1 home victory over San Jose on Saturday. Nana Boateng struck a seeing-eye first MLS goal in stoppage time to secure the full points. RECAP
Late heroics lift Crew SC, Union
Columbus posted their third win in a row, as a stoppage time strike from Gyasi Zardes gave them a 1-0 decision over Saturday visitors Houston. The Dynamo have lost four straight to fall eight points shy of the last playoff slot in the West. RECAP
Philadelphia started the weekend out of the playoff zone and ended it in fifth place thanks to a gutsy 3-2 win at New England. Fafa Picault's late penalty kick winner left the slipping Revs winless in six and looking up at the playoff line. RECAP
SKC hand LAFC first home loss
Away side Sporting KC got goals from Gerso and Ilie Sanchez, as well as their joint-league best ninth clean sheet of the season, in their 2-0 victory at LAFC. It marked the first ever defeat for the expansion side at Banc of California Stadium, and in turn the the MLS record sixth time Sporting has marred another team's unbeaten record at their ground. Galaxy, RSL settle for home draws
The LA Galaxy blew a pair of leads during the final half hour of a disappointing 2-2 draw against Saturday guests Minnesota United. In addition to the insult of the collapse, the StubHub crew suffered injuries to key men Romain Alessandrini and Giovani dos Santos. READ MORE | RECAP
Over in the Wasatch Front, Montreal picked up what could prove to be an important point in the tense Eastern Conference playoff race by fighting back for a 1-1 share at Real Salt Lake. Despite the rally, the Impact remain winless in four while the home side stayed unbeaten in as many games. RECAP
