Kendall Waston scores the first home goal in FC Cincinnati's MLS history

Apparently Kendall Waston has a knack for historic goals.

The big FC Cincinninati captain has added the first MLS goal in the city of Cincinnati's history on Sunday, rising to meet Leonardo Bertone's free kick and power in a perfect header in the 15th minute of the club's home opener at Nippert Stadium.

The goal gave the hosts a 1-0 lead over the Portland Timbers, whom Waston faced in fierce Cascadia Cup battles for the past five MLS seasons as a member of the Vancouver Whitecaps.

While the defender only has 15 career MLS tallies, he is no stranger to historic goals. On October 7, 2017, his stoppage-time equalizer against Honduras secured Costa Rica's spot in the 2018 FIFA World Cup. He went on to score the Ticos' first of two goals at the World Cup in Russia, both coming in a 2-2 draw against Switzerland on the third day of play in Group E.

Waston will be among the MLS contingent that returns to the Costa Rican camp for international duty next week.
