His team couldn’t crack the MLS Cup Playoff field, but that didn’t stop Columbus Crew SC midfielder Justin Meram from taking home MLS Etihad Airways Player of the Month honors for October.
Meram, 27, took home 46.69 percent of the fan vote to cruise to the award. New York Red Bulls forward and MLS Golden Boot winner Bradley Wright-Phillips finished second with 19.82 percent of the vote, FC Dallas defender Walker Zimmerman placed third with 13.63 percent and Red Bulls midfielder Sacha Kljestan and Colorado Rapids attacker Dominique Badji rounded out the field with 12 percent and 7.85 percent, respectively.
Meram had a big October, recording a goal and four assists in four matches to end the year on a high note. The Iraqi international had five goals and a career-high 13 assists, tied for third in the league, in 31 MLS appearances this year.
The five Etihad Airways Player of the Month finalists are selected at the end of each month by the MLSsoccer.com editorial staff. The winner is then determined by a fan vote.
